Types of U.S. Student Visas

F-1 Visa

The F-1 visa is for academic students enrolled in universities, colleges, high schools, or language training programs. This is the most common U.S. student visa.

  • Full-time enrollment required
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT) available
  • Valid for the duration of your studies

J-1 Visa

The J-1 visa is for exchange visitors participating in cultural and educational exchange programs. Includes high school and university exchanges.

  • Sponsor organization required
  • May include a home residency requirement
  • Limited work authorization

M-1 Visa

The M-1 visa is for students attending non-academic or vocational programs, such as technical training, culinary school, or mechanical studies.

  • Cannot work during study period
  • Strict limitations on extensions and transfers
  • Fixed program duration
